English actor, comedian, composer and
musician. His musical talent won him a scholarship to study music
at Magdalen
College at Oxford University. During his university years, he took a great
interest in Jazz. When he graduated from there in 1958, he was an
accomplished Jazz
pianist and composer. He
performed widely and began working with such leading musicians as John
Dankworth and Cleo
Laine. During 1960, he left John Dankworth's band to work on Beyond
the Fringe.
